Jazz Coordination and Hip Hop Grooves
This is a groove I've been working on with my students at the Musicians Institute .
As you can see, it requires all four limbs to play. This has been a major challenge for many of the drummers at PIT. My suggestion to them, and to you!, is to take things slow and easy, making sure you work your way through the coordination. The ride is playing what some call the "jazz pattern". Try and keep the hi hat on 2 and 4, as written. Then, perhaps, try playing the hh on all four quarter notes.
For those of you who "don't care" about jazz, just use this groove as a challenge. Try and work your way through it and make it sound musical.
